Do you love using a planner as much as I do? I’m assuming yes since you’re here. There is just something great about using a daily planner. You can dump all of the things swirling around in your head into your planner and clear up some space in that noggin!
I would never be able to get the amount of work done that I do if it wasn’t for my paper planner. I’m currently using three different ones. I know, it’s crazy! That’s just how I roll. If it’s not written down, it doesn’t get done. As you can tell from the name of my blog, I lead a crazy busy happy life. I’m in grad school, I teach, I’m a mother and a wife, I run an Amazon side-hustle, and I create this blog. I just can’t function if I’m not super organized.
I wrote an in-depth look at the Erin Condren Life Planner here. I know there are a lot of planner choices out there but I’ve found this one to be my favorite.

Use The Right Tools
The BEST pens to use with your planner are the Staedtler Triplus Fineliner pens. These come in super bright colors, don’t smear, and don’t bleed through the pages. Learn from my mistake- there is nothing worse than making a beautiful weekly spread only to have your gel pen smear and transfer all over the page.

2. Set It Up Right
Once you have your new planner, you’ve got to set up it up. Sometimes a brand-new, empty planner can be a little daunting. Make sure that you set up your planner in the most helpful way possible. You can download my free worksheet (at the bottom of the post) to help you figure out what you need to have in your planner. This post has four simple steps to get your planner ready to use.

3. Use Space Creatively
I love how A Grande Life used Washi tape to create a space for writing down her meal plan. I’m totally using this idea because it’s a great use of the blank space at the bottom of the page. I love how she turned such a simple idea into a useful organizing tool.

4. Decorate It!
Who knew that organizing could be so fun? This post has some of the best planner decorating I’ve seen. Sometimes decorations can overtake the actual planning space. I like how she uses a lot of stickers but still has plenty of room to write. Check out these super cute planner stickers.

5. Function over Form
Our planners are for organizing and getting stuff done! Therefore, don’t let all the glittery accessories distract you from the real goal of getting organized. This is a great post about using the life planner for school. No fancy stickers or washi tape. Just good ‘ol planning.

6.Don’t Go Broke!
Decorative stickers can get a little spendy. Here’s some cute, and FREE stickers to download. You can also check out my monster list of FREE planner stickers on this post.

7. DIY Accessories
You don’t have to buy everything for your Life Planner on the Erin Condren website. Here is a great step-by-step tutorial on how to make a DIY meal-planner insert. I love this because you could make it into anything, not just a meal-planner. I like to keep a shopping list on my front page. You could also make this into a to-do list.

8. Accessorize Because It’s Fun
Let’s face it, getting your shizz together means that yes, you are a grown-up now and you have responsibilities. That doesn’t mean that your planner (or your life) has to be frumpy or boring. Spice it up! Sometimes the accessories are more fun than the planner itself. You can check out this post that shows you a ton of Erin Condren accessories to drool over.
9. Update Yearly
I get super excited around November because that’s when I start shopping for my next year’s planner. The new Erin Condren designs came out in May. This post goes over all the new, cool details.

Staying organized can be super fun, you’ve just got to find the right way to do it. I hope you found this post helpful.

Do the pens you recommended write well on washi tape?
If you are writing on washi tape that has a masking tape type of texture. Like a matte texture. They do OK on glossy washi tape but work best on matte. It really depends on the texture of your tape. 🙂
Great!!
