Figuring out how you are going to make an income while also spending quality time with your children is a dilemma that many mothers face. Believe me, I’ve been there and done that!
I was laid off from my job when I was seven months pregnant with my first child. The company just went bankrupt and we were all left out on the curb.
Because of that experience, I had to get scrappy and QUICK because my baby wasn’t going to wait and neither were my bills.
Whether you are in a rush like I was or you want to quit your nine-to-five in order to spend more time with your children, I’ve got you covered.
Read on for some great ways to make an income while you work from home….
Become a Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant is someone who helps manage an online entrepreneurs business.
There’s no master list of activities that a virtual assistant does. This is a great gig for someone who can think outside of the box and is flexible in the things they do.
You can do things like manage their inbox and answer emails. You could do blog post editing or copy writing. You could do things like book appointments or help manage clients.
The possibilities are endless. It more depends on what you are comfortable doing and what your customer needs.
What’s cool about being a virtual assistant as opposed to a “real life” assistant is that you never have to leave your home to do the job! Have free time at night once the kids are asleep? Trying to squeeze in some work during nap-time? Perfect! You can do that when you are a virtual assistant.
Be a Paid Freelance Writer
Freelance writing is an excellent way to get started as a work at home mom. If you enjoy writing and are semi-decent at it, you should give this one a shot. There are plenty of resources that can help you get started and lots of job boards where you can find potential freelancing clients.
One of the quickest and easiest way to be a successful freelance writer is to focus on a particular topic, or niche, to write about. That way, you can really pinpoint the type of writing you want to do AND they type of clients you want to attract.
If you have no idea what topics (or niches) you’re going to focus on, it makes it really hard to attract your ideal clients.
But what’s the best way to pick a freelance writing niche? You can download a free worksheet to help you figure that out.
Become a Flea Market Flipper
This is one of the first work at home gigs that I did when I first started working at home.
This one is great and can be extremely profitable if you have a sharp eye and love to shop. Basically you are looking for things at thrift stores and yard sales to sell online for a profit.
If you don’t have any money to start out with, NO PROBLEM. You can find things for free that you can turn around and sell for profit. I’m not kidding. This really is a thing!
I supported our family for a year by flea market flipping, and I had a ton of fun doing it too!
