Blog Income Report
I was laid off during the Great Recession of 2008. My husband was too. We were also seven months pregnant with our first child. That downturn began my foray into online business. I began selling items on Amazon and Ebay. I made a decent amount of money; enough to pay the mortgage and put food on the table. I also entered grad school and after earning my Master’s I started teaching while working on my Ph.D. That left me with less time to focus on my side hustles.
Recently I decided to get serious about creating wealth through online avenues. I’ve upped my Amazon game and I started this blog.
Why I Blog:
I write this blog because I know I’m not alone. There are other women out there, just like you, juggling responsibilities and working, or who want to bring in extra income. You’re doing all these things while trying to keep your sanity (somewhat). It’s hard when you’re knee-deep in laundry, bills are due, and endless to-do’s are chipping away at your time. In those instances life can seem, well…not so fun (to put it mildly). That’s where this blog comes in.
I’m working, I’m momming, I’m going to school and I’m doing it all with a fair amount of success. Basically, I am JUST LIKE YOU. Sure, we all wear different hats but at the end of the day we are overworked, tired women just looking for a little encouragement and help to make life easier.
This is why I’m sharing my blog income report. To show others out there that it is possible to have a blog or other side-hustle and a life. This is only my third full month of blogging and it’s already bringing in income. It’s not a lot. I’m not posting thousands of dollars or anything, but I see upward growth. I’d rather build this blog slowly and steadily than fast and mediocre. This report is for those of you, like me, who just want to figure out ways to turn things we love into a livable income.
This is my third blog income report. August was my third full month of blogging. Although I started this blog in mid-May, it was more of a “soft launch” just to work out the bugs. I didn’t start promoting it or get serious with it until June.
Reasons for Posting Blog Income Reports:
Why would I want to post my income reports? Especially since I’m not making much? Well, if it hadn’t been for other bloggers posting their income reports, I might not have ever started a blog like this. I’ve blogged in the past but it was purely a personal blog like, “here’s my makeup today” and “this is the club I went to last weekend.” Basically, it wasn’t a “professional” blog.
I find blogging reports inspiring and very helpful. Even the ones that post low numbers.
- They show me what is achievable through blogging.
- They can highlight tools and tricks I may not have thought of.
The reasons I want to post my blog income reports:
- I want to have a record of my progress.
- To keep myself accountable.
- To give full disclosure to my readers.
- Perhaps I will inspire someone else, as I’ve been inspired by other bloggers.
As you will see below, this is in no way bragging. LOL. It’s solely for tracking, inspiration, and accountability.
Traffic boomed at the beginning of the month and then leveled off to steady numbers. I averaged 758 pageviews a day but the early month spike threw that number off. Without the spike the blog receives apx. 400-500 views a day.
Pageviews: 23, 483
Unique Visitors: 14, 384
Bounce Rate: 78.93%
- Pinterest is still the number 1 driver of traffic to my blog. I use BoardBooster to schedule and post pins for me. I was trying to get away with spending less a month and so I lowered the amount of pins to post per day. That’s where the dip in referrals to my site started. Lesson learned!
Now I’m pinning about 80 pins a day. it’s less that the 135 I was pinning a day when the spike happened. I thought about switching to Tailwind because they offer an unlimited amount of pins per month versus BoardBooster that charges $5 per 500 pins. I already used up my Tailwind free trial. It would be cheaper for me to used Tailwind but I REALLY like BoardBooster because it’s more hands-off. I can just set it once and forget it whereas Tailwind needs weekly tweaks. I’ll keep you posted as to what I decide to do. I may start using both but right now I’m trying to keep my costs down.
- I added the SumoMe plug-in. This makes that nifty little share icon pop-up on the left-hand side of my blog. It’s increased my shares substantially and has helped me grow my email list.
- I put off creating a Facebook page for my blog and now I wish I hadn’t. If you combine all of the Facebook traffic from the picture above, you can see that it brings a lot of traffic with a low bounce rate. So that will be my focus for September.
